Muladhara (Root Chakra)
The Muladhara Chakra or Root Chakra is the foundation of the entire Chakra system. It sits at the base of the tailbone/coccygeal area and leads into its activation point in the perineum or kaegle area. It is represented by red and and yellow-gold in its colors. The four petals are red, with the Sanskrit syllables वं vaṃ, शं śaṃ, षं ṣaṃ and सं saṃ written in gold upon them, representing the four vrittis: greatest joy, natural pleasure, delight in controlling passion, and blissfulness in concentration. Alternatively, they may represent dharma (psycho-spiritual longing), artha (psychic longing), kama (physical longing) and moksha (longing for spiritual liberation). The gold 'tattwa' of Earth is the square that encases the inner circle of this symbol.
When you are sitting cross legged in Lotus position with the hip tilted at proper angle, this Chakra connects to the floor or to Mother Earth. Whether we are walking or sitting, this Chakra looks to find its roots in the telluric downward and grounding pull of the Earth. The chakra embodies the very raw energy, our very primal and instinctual nature as humans and primates. It relates to our sense of security in having our basic needs met, having food to eat, shelter from the elements, safety, 'fight or flight' response in the event we need to flee a predator or danger. It holds our most basic, yet powerful sense of hopes and fears. It can express itself savagely or darkly if its needs are supressed. It also is directly connected to the Shadows of the unconscious mind or inner child, past emotional traumas for the individual, yet it is also tapped into the collective unconscious.
However, the Root is also the seat of our passion fires and our masculine power to provide. The Muladhara is also a vital portal through which we receive energy that is similar to taking in nutrients to the body or sunlight, only it is from the Earth's telluric pull. It is also where we release toxins from the body, so it is a highly vital chakra to keep open and unblocked. It's health stabilizes our ability to purify the body and relates to autoimmune functions and the blood.
The Kundalini starts here as snake coiled around the base of the spine, laying dormant around the roots of our Mother Gaia/Earthship connection. It is said to be the most vital Chakra for humans to find balance, as it truly directs to the balancing/activation of all other the other chakras. It is called 'Red Bindu', which correlates as the negative (female) pole to the positive (male) pole of the Crown Chakra and 'White Bindu' (The Pineal Gland/Third Eye) It is highly involved with sexual stimulation from a more reproductive and biological nature. When the Kundalini first starts to rise, it feels very stimulating to the sex organs. While it is important to let go of any shame related to being a sexually-natured Being, in this practice it is also key to utilize this energy in a highly different manner than we would if we were being aroused toward the lustful craving of. When we channel this desire instead to make Love with the Universe and to connect with our Higher Self, it can become the zero point Force that awakens us into the Higher Consciousness or Enlightened seeing. If you are interested in ways to learn how to connect with your mate on this Higher level through sex, I recommend that you look into studying Tantric Sex together, as this also can be carefully utilized to raise the Kundalini.

He is mounted upon the white elephant Airavata, who has seven trunks, denoting the seven elements vital to physical functioning. Occasionally, instead of Indra, the deity may be Ganesha, with coral orange skin, wearing a lemon yellow dhoti with a green silk scarf draped around his shoulders. In three hands he holds a laddu, a lotus flower and a hatchet, and the fourth is raised in the mudra of dispelling fear.
The seed mantra syllable is लं (Laṃ), pronounced almost 'Langh'. Within the bindu, or point that forms a part of the Sanskriti letter, just above it, is Brahma, who is deep red, with four faces and four arms, holding a staff, a sacred vase of nectar, a japa mala, and making the gesture of dispelling fear. Alternatively, instead of the staff and japa mala, he may be holding a lotus flower and the sacred scriptures. He is seated on a swan. A goddess called Dakini is his shakti, or his source of empowerment. She is beautiful, with three eyes and four arms. Dakini is usually depicted shining red or white, holding a trident, a skulled staff, a swan, and a drinking vessel, and is seated on a swan. Instead of a swan and drinking vessel, at times she holds a sword and a shield.
